In order for students to be able to start scheduling sessions with you, you'll need to correctly set up your tutor profile! Setting up your tutor profile correctly is important, as students may not be able to schedule sessions with you if your profile is missing key information!
Setting up your tutor profile involves:
- Adding subjects you are capable of teaching
- Adding any languages in which you are fluent
- Adding your availability for tutoring sessions
This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to add courses to your profile, and any languages in which you are fluent! We've written a lot of helpful articles addressing how to add your availability for sessions, with this article being a good starting point: Setting Availability as a Tutor on Upswing: A Quick Guide.
Getting Started
To set up your tutor profile, start by logging into Upswing and clicking on the 'Tutoring' icon in the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. Within the 'Tutoring' tab, you'll be able to set up your tutor profile, add your availability for tutoring sessions, view session requests, join online sessions, and more!
Adding Courses to Your Tutor Profile
-
View the 'Skills' Section.
From the 'Tutoring' page, scroll down to the section titled 'Skills'. This section can be found below where you will add your availability for sessions. The 'Skills' you add to your profile are the courses in which you can teach! To start adding courses, click 'Edit' in the left corner of the 'Skills' section.
-
Option 1: Search for Your Subjects.
After clicking 'Edit', you'll see a search bar where you can search for your courses, and a list of different categories. If you know the specific name of your course, you can type the course name into the search bar and click on the course to add the course to your profile.
-
Option 2: Use the Subject Categories and Subcategories to Add Your Courses.
If you don't know the specific name of the course you're able to teach, or if you'd like to add multiple courses within a field of study, finding your courses using the course categories may be a good option for you! Course categories are broad and contain many related subcategories, where you'll be able to find specific courses at your institution.
-
Select the Category.
Below the search bar, find the subject category that applies to your field of expertise. Click the black down-arrow next to the category to see the list of subcategories.
-
Within the Category, Select the Subcategory.
You'll now see all of the subcategories within the category you selected. Find the subcategory related to your field, and click on the black down-arrow next to the subcategory to see the list of courses.
-
Select Your Courses.
After selecting a category and subcategory, you'll be able to see all of the courses within that subcategory. Add courses to your 'Skills' by clicking on the blue plus sign next to the subject you'd like to add.
-
-
Confirm the Courses You've Added.
Once you've added your courses, either by searching for the course name or by selecting the courses within the subcategories, you'll see them listed within your 'Skills' section. If you've added a course by accident, you can click on the red circle icon next to the course to remove it from your Skills.
-
Save Your Courses!
After confirming you've added the correct courses, click 'done' in the left-corner of the 'Skills' section to save the courses you've added!
Adding Fluent Languages to Your Tutor Profile
-
View the 'Fluent Languages' Section.
From the 'Tutoring' page, scroll down to the section titled 'Fluent Languages'. This section can be found below where you will add your availability for sessions and your 'Skills'. To start adding any languages you can speak, click 'Edit' in the left corner of the 'Fluent Languages' section.
-
Add the Languages In Which You Are Fluent.
Either search for the language in the search box, or scroll down the list to find the language in which you are fluent. Click on the blue plus sign next to the language to add it to your profile.
-
Save!
Once you've selected the language, click 'Done' in the left-corner of the 'Fluent Languages' section to save!
You should now be able to see the list of courses you can teach and languages you can speak in your 'Skills' and 'Fluent Languages' sections, respectively!
