As an Upswing administrator, setting session limits allows you to manage the amount of time your students are able to schedule sessions with tutors during a designated time period. Below is a detailed guide on how to set various types of session limits through your admin dashboard.

Types of Session Limits

The different limitations that can be set on students' access to tutoring are the following:

  • Limitation on how far in advance students can schedule sessions:

This type of limit can be placed on students to prevent them from scheduling sessions too far in advance. This type of limit can be set on both school tutors and Upswing tutors.
  • Weekly session limits:

A weekly session limit prevents students from scheduling more than a set number of hours with tutors per week. This type of limit can be set on both school tutors and Upswing tutors.
  • Monthly session limits:

A monthly session limit prevents students from scheduling more than a set number of hours with tutors per month. This type of limit can be set on both school tutors and Upswing tutors.
  • Session limits over a designated period of time:

As an admin, you can prevent students from scheduling more than a set number of hours over a period of time, such as a semester. This type of limit can be set on both school tutors and Upswing tutors.
  • Limiting sessions to their scheduled duration:

This is a limit that can only be set for Upswing tutors. Activating this setting will prevent sessions students have with Upswing tutors from going longer than originally scheduled. This article provides step-by-step instructions: Admin Guide: How To Limit Tutoring Sessions to Their Scheduled Duration

How to Set Session Limits

  1. Access the 'Tutoring' View Within Your Admin Dashboard.

Begin by logging into Upswing and navigating to your Admin Dashboard. Click on 'Tutoring' on the left-side of the screen to access the tutoring settings for your institution.

    2. Weekly Session Limits:

To set a weekly session limit on tutoring hours, check the box next to 'Limit the number of weekly tutoring hours for students:', then provide the maximum number of tutoring hours students can use each week.

    3. Monthly Session Limits:

To set a monthly session limit on tutoring hours, check the box next to 'Limit the number of monthly tutoring hours for students:', then provide the maximum number of tutoring hours students can use each month.

    4. Session Limits from [Start Date] to [End Date]:

To set a session limit over a period of time, check the box next to 'Limit the number of hours available to students from [start date] to [end date]:'. In the boxes, provide the start date and end date of the time period for the limit, then provide the maximum number of tutoring hours students can use during that time.

    5. Setting Multiple Session Limits:

It is possible to set session limits over more than one time period. However, Upswing will default to the more restrictive limitation. For example, if you were to set a 5-hour weekly limit, and a 15-hour monthly limit, students would only be able to schedule up to 15 hours per month with tutors. Because this can be a bit confusing, we recommend setting only one time-based limit.

  4. Save Your Changes.

Once you've set the limits you'd like, click on the blue 'Save Changes' box to implement the limits!
