Campus Advisors: Setting Up Your Advisor Profile

In order for students to be able to start scheduling advising appointments with you, you'll need to correctly set up your advisor profile! Setting up your advisor profile correctly is important, as students may not be able to schedule appointments with you if your profile is missing key information!

Setting up your advisor profile involves:

  1. Adding advising categories to your profile
  2. Adding your availability for advising sessions

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to add advising categories to your profile! This article doesn't have step-by-step instructions on how to add your availability. Getting Started

To set up your advisor profile, start by logging into Upswing, then click on 'Advising' in the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. Within the 'Advising' tab, you'll be able to set up your advisor profile, add your availability for advising sessions, view session requests, join online sessions, create notes about your students, and more!

Adding Categories to Your Advisor Profile

Categories are the different topics students can select from when they want to schedule an advising session with you. In order for students to be able to schedule advising sessions, you'll need to have categories listed on your profile! Follow the steps below to add categories to your profile:

  1. View the 'Categories' Section.

    On the 'Advising' page, scroll down to the section titled 'Categories'. This section can be found below where you will add your availability for sessions. To start adding categories, click 'Edit' in the left corner of the 'Categories' section.

  2. Find the Category You'd Like to Add.

    After clicking 'Edit', you'll see a search bar where you can search for categories, as well as a list of different the categories available. If you know the category you'd like to add, you can search for it in the search bar. Alternatively, you can find the category within the list.

    Some high-level categories will have nested more-specific categories. Click on the blue arrow next to one of the high-level categories to see any that are more specific.

  3. Add Your Categories.

    Next to the category name, click on the blue plus-sign to add the category to your advisor profile.

  4. View the Categories You've Added.

    After adding a category, you should see a green plus-sign next to the name of the category you added. Additionally, you should be able to see the categories you've added at the top of the 'Categories' section.

    If you need to remove a category, you can click on the red circle with the minus-sign next to the category name to have it removed.

  5. Click 'Done'.

    Once you're finished adding categories, click on the blue 'done' button in the top-right corner of the 'Categories' section to save!

  6. Success!

    You should now see the categories you've added to your profile. You can edit these anytime by clicking 'edit' in the top-right corner and repeating the steps above.
