Introduction to Domo
Domo is a powerful business intelligence platform designed to help institutions visualize, analyze, and manage their data effectively. For Upswing partner institutions, Domo provides a centralized view of key usage metrics, empowering administrators and staff to make data-driven decisions about student engagement and program effectiveness. This introductory article serves as a comprehensive guide to Domo, focusing on its structure, navigation, and features for Upswing partners.
Understanding Domo Roles
In Domo, every user is assigned a specific role based on their responsibilities and access needs. For Upswing partners, there are two primary user roles:
Admin Lite Users
- Each of our partner institutions will have a designated Admin Lite user. This user will serve as the account administrator for their institution.
- They have access to all available apps, including the User Management app.
- Admin Lite users are responsible for managing user accounts. Whenever the Admin Lite creates a user account for their colleague, all non-User Management apps are automatically shared with that colleague.
External Viewers
- These are additional staff members added by the Admin Lite user.
- External Viewers can access and view the reports and apps available in Domo, but cannot manage user accounts or settings.
- External Viewers will have access to most apps in Domo, with the exception of the User Management app.
Note: Upswing manages the main Admin Lite account setup but does not handle additional user management. This allows for each Admin Lite user to have greater control over who at their institution can access Upswing data. If the Admin Lite user transitions out of their position with their institution, they should notify their HERO as soon as possible so a new Admin Lite user can be identified.
Navigating Domo
When a user first logs into Domo, they will land on the Apps page. Here they will see the apps created to share Upswing data, and Admin Lite users will also see a User Management app. While there is also a Dashboards and a More icon on the top navigation menu bar, the admin lite may never need to use those options. Below is an overview of the key navigation components:
Apps Page
- This is the central hub for all institution-specific apps, where Upswing data is stored.
- Admin Lite users will see all available apps, including the User Management app, while External Viewers will only see reporting and data-focused apps like Partner Usage and Ana Data.
Dashboards
- Dashboards allow users to save and organize their favorite cards and reports in a personalized space.
- While dashboards are useful for quick access to visualizations, most users will spend their time within the apps for deeper insights.
More Menu
- Found in the top navigation bar, this menu includes the option to view and manage already scheduled reports.
Overview of Domo Apps
Domo apps are interactive data environments designed for specific data needs. Each app includes visualizations, interactive features, and workflows tailored to Upswing data. The following apps are available:
Partner Usage App
The Partner Usage App provides usage metrics across all modules used by the institution and is organized into three tabs:
- Overview Tab: Displays high-level, aggregate data such as engagement statistics and Upswing usage by month.
- Student-Level Data Tab: Includes more detailed visualizations such as Usage by Student and Assignment Review Turnaround time per submission.
-
Administration Tab: Focuses on data specific to the partner's Upswing setup such as School Subjects.
Ana Data App
The Ana Data App displays data focused specifically on Ana usage and is organized into two tabs:
- Overview Tab: Summarizes high level campaign and message data.
-
Student- and Message-Level Data Tab: Provides more detailed breakdowns of Ana data, including individual conversations between Ana and students.
User Management App
The User Management App allows Admin Lite users to create new users, modify users, or remove users in Domo. This app is only visible to Admin Lite users. External Viewers do not have permissions to view this app. You can learn more about managing users in this article: A Deep Dive Into the User Management App in Domo (Admin Lite Users Only).
