Introduction to Domo Cards
In Domo, each data visualization shown within an app is displayed as a "card." Cards are the building blocks of Domo apps, offering an interactive way to explore data, identify trends, and share insights. These cards provide powerful features, including filtering, exporting, annotation, and scheduling reports, to help you manage and communicate your data effectively.
All examples below are from a card in the Partner Usage app, but the features remain the same for all cards and are available for all users (Admin Lite Users and External Viewers).
Understanding the Structure of a Domo Card
Each Domo card contains a data visualization tailored to a specific metric or analysis. To interact more with a specific visualization, expand the card by clicking the arrows that appear in the top right corner when you hover over the card.
Once you expand the card, a larger depiction of the visualization that includes several icons corresponding to additional features will appear.
Features Available at the Card Level
Filtering (Funnel Icon)
Filtering at the card level allows you to adjust the data displayed in a specific card, as opposed to filtering at the app level. To apply a filter, click the funnel icon in the top right corner of the card. Adjust parameters like date ranges, categories, or specific data points and apply your changes to see the updated data visualization. Tip: Filters applied at the card level are temporary and specific to your current session.
Using the Table View (Table Icon)
Clicking the Table icon will change your visualization to a simple table. This is particularly helpful with more detailed visualizations where you'd like to view the detailed rows and columns of the data. To revert back to the original visualization, click the Table icon again.
Show Controls (Sliding Scale Icon)
Clicking Show Controls may not prove useful for the vast majority of users, but it does provide an audit log of sorts for that visualization.
Card Options (Ellipsis Icon)
Clicking Card Options displays a couple useful features: Export and Go to Card Details.
Card Options: Export
Clicking Export provides several ways to export the visualization: email, print, Excel, CSV, or PowerPoint.
1. Export - Email:
Clicking Email will pop open a dialog for the user to select the person or people to whom they'd like to email the visualization. It's important to note that the recipient(s) must be added as Domo users to control who has access to the data. Once the recipient(s) is/are selected, click Send.
2. Export - Print:
Clicking Print will display a small preview of the printed visualization and provide options for including additional information. Make the appropriate selections, and click Print.
3. Export - Excel, CSV, and PowerPoint:
Clicking any of the remaining options will download the report in that format. See an example of the Excel and the PowerPoint downloads below.
Features Available at the Card Details Level
Clicking Go to Card Details opens the visualization in its own window. This is helpful if you really want to dig in and manipulate the data for this particular visualization. You'll notice there is a drop down menu at the top with your current date filter. Clicking on the dropdown will allow you to change the date range and, for some visualizations, change other settings. In the far right, there are some of the same icons from the card view, but there are a couple of new ones, as well.
Card Details - Annotate:
Annotations allow you to add notes or highlights to visualizations, which can be useful for presentations or sharing context with others. Next to the Filter icon, there is an Annotate icon in the shape of a small pen. Clicking this will give you the option to take a snapshot.
Once you're viewing the snapshot, you can annotate the visualization by adding shapes, text, or freehand drawings. See the example below. Once you're finished annotating, you can download it.
Card Details - Chart Picker:
Next to the Share icon, you have another new icon labeled Chart Picker. Clicking this icon will provide other potentially helpful charts to visualize this information in different ways. Depending on the visualization you're viewing, you'll see different options display.
Selecting a different chart will change the visualization, as shown in the example below where the Variance bar line option is selected.
Card Details - Card Options:
Clicking Card Options (wrench icon) also provides new options that weren't available in the card view: scheduling reports and editing scheduled reports.
Schedule as Report:
Once you click the wrench icon, you'll see a menu of options, including the option to Schedule as Report.
Clicking this will display a similar dialog to sending an email. The difference is that you'll be able to schedule the report to go out on a regular basis. Like sending an email, the recipient(s) must be existing Domo users.
Edit Scheduled Reports:
In the same menu, you'll see the option to Edit Scheduled Reports.
Clicking Edit Scheduled Reports will take you to a new page listing all of your reports. You'll be able to see the schedule details, and if you click the More icon on the far right, you'll be able to manage the scheduled report.
