Session limits allow for administrators to set a default maximum amount of time that students are able to meet with tutors on Upswing during a given time period (See: Admin Guide: How to Set Session Limits). In the event a student is requesting additional support, administrators are able to grant individual students additional time through the use of session limit exemptions.
How to Add a Session Limit Exemption
1. Access the 'Tutoring' view within your Admin Dashboard.
Begin by logging into Upswing and navigating to your Admin Dashboard. Click on 'Tutoring' on the left-side of the screen to access the tutoring settings for your institution.
2. Navigate to 'Tutoring Settings'.
In the drop-down menu at the top of the screen, select 'Tutoring Settings'.
3. Find the Session Limit Exemptions table and click 'Add New Exemption'.
Scroll down below the session limits section of the page to find the 'Session Limit Exemptions' table. In the top-right corner of the table, click the 'Add New Exemption' button.
4. Search for the student in the 'Student Name' field.
In the box below 'Student Name', search for the student you'd like to grant the exemption by typing in their first and last name or their email address. Once the student's account populates, click on their name.
5. Set the Expire Date.
Click on the box below 'Expire Date' to open the calendar. Within the calendar, select the date you would like this session limit exemption to expire. When giving a student additional tutoring time with a session limit exemption, the additional minutes will only be available until the expire date you set.
6. Add the number of additional minutes you'd like to give the student.
In the 'Minutes' field, type the number of additional tutoring minutes you'd like to give this student.
7. Provide the reason for the exemption.
If you'd like to provide a reason for granting the exemption, you can add the reason in the text box below 'Reason (optional)'.
8. Click 'Create Exemption'.
Once you've provided all of the information above, click on the green 'Create Exemption' button. You should see a confirmation pop-up in the bottom-left corner of the page. Please note: you will need to refresh your page to view the session limit exemption you added in the Session Limit Exemptions table.
9. Edit the exemption, if needed.
If you'd like to edit the exemption, click on the yellow pencil icon next to the exemption and edit the fields you'd like to update. Once you're finished, click the 'Update Exemption' button to save your changes. Please note: you will need to refresh your page to see the updates you made to the exemption!
