Introduction to the Ana Data App
The Ana Data App in Domo provides administrators with detailed insights into Ana data for your institution. The Ana Data app is comprised of two tabs: Overview and Student- and Message-Level Data. The Overview tab shows administrators high-level Ana data, such as campaign-performance, number of messages sent and received, and unsubscribe rates, while the Student- and Message-Level Data tab provides administrators with visibility into individual conversations between students and Ana.
This guide will provide an in-depth look at the app's tabs, key metrics, and features, along with practical examples of how to use the data for impactful decision-making.
The Overview Tab
The Overview tab of the Ana Data App provides administrators with high-level data around Ana. To view data from a designated semester or school year, click on the sliding scale in the top-right corner to filter the data by date.
At the top of the Overview tab, you'll see key metrics that provide information about the following:
- The number of campaigns sent during the designated time frame
- The number of messages sent to students from Ana
- The number of messages sent from students to Ana
- The total campaign engagement, or the percentage of students that responded to at least one Ana campaign during the designated time frame
- The number student-initiated conversations
- The percentage of students that unsubscribed from Ana messaging during the designated timeframe
In addition to these summary statistics, the Overview tab has two sections: Campaign Details and Student-Initiated Conversations, explained further below.
Section I: Campaign Details
Each semester, Upswing sends a series of messages, or campaigns, to students. These campaigns are one of the following structures:
- Multiple-choice (also known as decision-tree): these campaigns include numerical choices students can select from to receive an automated response from Ana.
- Free-response: these campaigns are simple, shorter messages that lack choices for students to select. These types of campaigns are usually used share information or words of encouragement with students.
When students respond to a multiple-choice campaign with one of the numbered options, they'll receive the pre-programmed response from Ana for the option selected. If a student would like to receive the response for a different option, they can reply to the campaign again with another number. The tables in this section can show you how your students are responding to those initial multiple-choice campaigns and their secondary responses.
Table I: Campaigns Sent
The first table in the Campaign Details section is the Campaigns Sent table. This table provides a comprehensive overview of each campaign sent through Ana. For each campaign, you can view the outgoing message content and date the campaign was sent.
The table also shows key metrics related to each campaign: the total number of students who received the message, engagement data, and unsubscribe data.
By analyzing engagement rates across campaigns, you can identify which types of information and resources resonate most strongly with students.
Table II: Initial Student Responses to Ana Campaigns
This table breaks down students' first interactions with Ana's campaigns by tracking their response choices. For each preset option, you can see both the raw number and percentage of students who selected that choice. These insights help identify which resources are most in demand and provide a snapshot of the student body's current needs.
Table III: Initial and Second Student Responses to Ana Campaigns
The data in this table displays response data for a specific type of decision-tree campaign, also known as a double-decision tree campaign. With this type of campaign, the first message sent by Ana is a multiple-choice question. When the student responds, the response from Ana is a second multiple-choice question.
The data in this table provides a detailed view of complete conversation flow between Ana and students with this type of campaign. It tracks the full interaction sequence: the student's initial response selection, Ana's follow-up message, and the student's subsequent response. This deeper analysis helps you understand how students navigate through Ana's support pathways and which conversation flows are most effective at connecting students with resources.
These types of messages often start with a survey to gather student sentiment, and follow-up with a list of resources that may be of interest to students. With this specific type of message, this table allows you to identify any differences in resources requested by students of different sentiment.
Section II: Student-Initiated Conversations
Students are able to reach out to Ana at any time. When students send the message "Hey Ana" or "I have a question", they will receive an automated response guiding them to specific resources or directing them to our Student Success Team for further assistance.
Hey Ana Responses -- Student Responses to "Hi! What can I help you with?"
This bar graphs shows students' first interaction with the follow-up question they receive after messaging "Hey Ana". This follow-up question from Ana contains a menu of many different types of resources. This bar graph provides insight into the different types of information students may be seeking assistance.
Student- and Message-Level Data
The Student- and Message-Level Data tab provides insight into the interactions between individual students and Ana. This tab includes student-specific data including the conversation history between Ana and a student, students that have unsubscribed from Ana messaging, and more.
Table I: All Conversations
This table shows the entire conversation history between Ana and students in chronological order during a designated time frame. This table includes information about the student, the date of the message, message content, and message direction (sent to student vs. received from student).
If you would like to see the conversation between Ana and a specific student, you can filter the data in the table by first name, last name, email address, student ID, and more.
Table II: Unsubscribed Students
This table is relatively straightforward. It provides the name, student ID, and email address of the students that have unsubscribed from Ana messaging.
Table III: "I have a question." Follow-Ups
As briefly explained before, when students message "Hey Ana", they will receive a menu of resources they can select from. However, if a student does not find the information they're looking for within the menu of resources, they're able to share what they need help with and a member of our Student Success Team will respond. This table displays those responses from students, giving visibility into the resources students are needing assistance with.
Table IV: Other Student Initiated Conversations
This table displays each instance a student initiated a conversation with Ana, providing insight to the topics students may contact Ana directly about.
Conclusion
The Ana Data App offers a comprehensive view of how Ana messaging supports student engagement. By exploring its tabs, analyzing key metrics, and leveraging the data within each table, administrators can better understand the feelings and needs of their students.
