When submitting an assignment for review on Upswing, the submission form will ask you to upload files for your tutor to view as they provide you with their feedback. The Assignment Review submission form includes two places for you to upload documents: the Main File Upload and Supporting File(s) Upload. This article will explain the difference of those two fields and will provide helpful tools to use if you are trying to upload the wrong type of file when submitting your assignment.

Main File Upload

The file you should attach in the Main File Upload section of the Assignment Review submission form is the file you would like your tutor to review.  Depending on the school you attend, the main file may need to be a specific format. In most cases, the accepted format is a Word Document (.doc or .docx).

If you are attempting to upload a file as the Main File Upload that isn't an accepted format, such as PDFs, PowerPoints, or .DOTX files, you may see an error message when you try to submit your assignment. The error message should inform you that the file type is not accepted and show a red x next to the name of the file you uploaded, as shown in the image below.

If you see this error message when trying to submit your paper for review, you will need to convert the file to an accepted file type before you submit your assignment for review. To convert your file to a Word Document, please use one of the tools below:

If you are using an online software such as Google Docs, you can download your file as a Microsoft Word document within Google Docs by following these steps:

  1. Click 'File' in the top-left corner of your Google Doc
  2. Select 'Download' in the drop-down menu
  3. Select 'Microsoft Word (.docx)'

Once you have converted your file to a Word Document, please attach the converted Word Document in the Main File Upload field of the Assignment Review submission form.

Supporting File(s) Upload

The Supporting File(s) field in the Assignment Review submission form gives you the opportunity to provide your tutor with additional information about the assignment you would like to be reviewed. Supporting files may include the assignment's rubric, PDFs of articles you've talked about in your assignment, PowerPoint slides from class lectures, etc. Supporting Files are not required, but can be very helpful for your tutor to consider as they review your assignment. Additionally, the files you attach as supporting files do not have to be Word Documents, as shown in the screenshot below:
