This article explains a bit more about Ana, Upswing's virtual texting assistant. Keep in mind that you may not have this service depending on your school.
Who is Ana?
Ana is your school’s virtual assistant! Here to provide students like you with helpful updates, resources, and encouragement throughout the school-year, Ana is empathetic and resourceful as their number one goal is to support and empower students.
You can view Ana as part-robot, part-human! Some of the texts you’ll receive from Ana will be automated, while others will come from the humans that work hard to answer any questions the robot-side can't!
What types of messages will Ana send?
As your school’s virtual assistant, Ana will send you one to two messages per week. The content of these texts could include school-related reminders and announcements, information about financial and academic resources, bits of encouragement, and more!
How can students use Ana?
In order to receive the greatest benefit from Ana, we’d recommend saving their number as a contact, so you have their phone number whenever you need it! There are a few ways that students can interact with Ana, explained below:
Respond to a message sent from Ana:
Some of the messages you’ll receive from Ana are structured as multiple-choice questions. When you respond to a text with your selected choice, Ana will reply with an automated response specific to that choice. With messages like these, the robot-side of Ana is running the show, and the humans behind Ana aren’t as involved. It’s important to note that the robot-side of Ana can only respond to one multiple-choice option at a time!
If you respond to a message that isn’t a multiple-choice, or with something other than one of the answer choice options, the humans behind Ana will see your message so they can make sure that your question is answered!
Receive helpful resources immediately by messaging “Hey Ana”:
If you have a school-related question, send a message saying “Hey Ana” and the robot-side of Ana will immediately respond with a list of resources that may have the answer!
Message Ana directly to speak with a human:
We know that the robot-side of Ana won’t be able to answer every question you may have with the “Hey Ana” resources, which is why the humans are here to help! If you have a question that isn’t answered with the “Hey Ana” responses, feel free to text Ana your question directly, and a human will help out as soon as they can!
Ana’s Availability
The robot-side of Ana is available 24/7, however, the humans behind Ana are only available M-F from 9 AM - 5 PM CST. If you have a question outside of these hours, send “Hey Ana” and your question might be answered! If your question isn’t answered, the humans behind Ana will respond to you as soon as they see your message the following day.
Inappropriate Messages
Ana loves to be there to support students, and even enjoys a joke from time to time. However, since Ana is an official method of communication from your school, we do ask that you keep the professionalism of a college student. Additionally, since there are real humans reading your responses, please try to be kind.
