This article explains the steps for scheduling a session on a mobile device, and the small tricks that may help if you are having trouble successfully making an appointment using your phone.
While we recommend using Upswing on a computer, we understand that this isn't always possible and you may need to schedule a session with a tutor from your mobile device. Not every phone is the same, therefore depending on what you have, your experience may be different than the instructions below. It's important to mention that Safari is not a supported browser at this time, so Apple users could encounter difficulty using Safari.
If you are a student having trouble scheduling a session on a mobile device, please follow the steps below:
Scheduling a session using your phone
1. Log into Upswing and click on Meet with a Tutor.
2. Search for your subject
Use search bar and select the subject from the drop-down menu.
3. View available tutors and request a session
Scroll down to view the list of available tutors for your subject. Once you've decided which tutor you'd like to meet with, click Schedule.
4. Fill out the additional information
On the tutor's profile page, choose the time that you'd like to schedule a session with the tutor, and click Select a Time.
5. Locate the scheduling pop-up window (Decrease zoom / Landscape mode)
This will open the session scheduling pop-up window. All fields are required to be filled out in order for you to be able to schedule a session.
However, this is where things can get tricky. If your phone is in portrait mode (vertical orientation), you may not be able to see the Subject drop down menu, as shown in the screenshot below.
In order to be able to schedule a session, selecting a subject is required. To be able to view the subject drop-down, there are 2 options:
- Decrease the page zoom within the browser on your phone. This varies by the kind of phone you use.
- Turn your phone to landscape mode (horizontal orientation) by turning your phone sideways. You may need to check the settings of your mobile device to make sure that landscape mode is enabled.
A. Decreasing the page zoom within Safari (iPhone ONLY)
To decrease the page zoom within Safari, you can click the "AA" to the left of the website handle. This will open up a list of website settings. At the bottom of the list, you will see the page zoom. By clicking the small "A" on the lefthand side, you should be able to decrease the page zoom. We have found that decreasing the zoom to 50% should allow for the subject drop-down to become visible.
A1. Select the subject
By decreasing the page zoom to 50%, you should now be able to see the subject drop-down within the scheduling pop-up window. Now, you can select the subject you'd like to receive tutoring in!
A2. Fill out the form
Confirm that the date, time, and duration fields are correctly filled out. Now, you should be able to click the blue Schedule button to schedule your session.
A3. Confirm your request
You should see a notification at the bottom of your screen that says your session has been requested!
B. Turning Your Phone to Landscape Mode
B1. Select the subject
Once you've turned your phone to landscape mode, you should be able to see all of the fields in the session scheduling pop-up window, including the Subject drop-down box, as shown in the screenshot below.
B2. Fill out the form
Select your subject from the drop-down window, and confirm the time, duration, and location fields are all filled out correctly.
B3. Schedule and confirm
Once all of the fields are filled out, scroll down to the bottom of the session scheduling pop-up, and the blue Schedule box should now be clickable. Click Schedule to submit your session request.
6. Confirm that you requested the session
You should see a notification at the bottom of your screen that says your session has been requested!
