Upswing tutors are able to assist in a wide-range of subjects, from common subjects like Business (Economics, Marketing, Management, etc.), Math (Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, etc.), English (Writing, Composition, Literature, etc.), Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, etc.) and History, to more advanced subjects like Health Science / Nursing, Computer Science, Engineering, and more!
However, to ensure you get the most out of Upswing's tutoring services, it's important to know how to search effectively for your subject! Here's a guide to help you correctly search for your subject to find the perfect tutor for your course.
Using the Course Name and Course ID to Search for Tutors
-
Identify Your Course Name and Course ID
Before you start searching, make sure you know the exact course name and course ID of your course as it is listed by your institution. If you're not sure, you can likely find this information on the syllabus for your class, within your student portal, or in the course catalog for your school! For example, you might be taking College Algebra, and the course name and course ID might be something like MATH 1101: College Algebra.
-
Access the Tutoring Module
Once you know the course name and course ID of the class you're needing help with, you're ready to get started with Upswing Tutoring! Start by logging into your Upswing account. If you have trouble logging in, take a look at this helpful article: Student Guide to Logging Into Upswing. Once you login, go to the Tutoring Module by either clicking on "Meet with a Tutor" on your home page, or by clicking on "Tutoring" on the left side of the screen!
-
Search for Your Class Using the Course Name or Course ID
Towards the top of the Tutoring module, you'll see a search bar! In the search bar, type in the course ID or the course name you found in Step 1! Searching for broad subject areas like "Math" or "History" might not show the specific class you need help with. Take a look at the example below!
ENGL-1301: Composition I Example:
In this example, a student is trying to find a tutor that can help them with their English course. They didn't know the specific course name and course ID of their English course, so they tried to search for "English" to find a tutor. However, as shown below, the search results showed courses that the student wasn't currently taking.
After reviewing the syllabus for their English course, the student was able to see that the specific course name and course ID for their course was ENGL-1301. By searching for ENGL-1301, the student was able to find their course!
What To Do If You Can't Find Any Tutors
If you've tried searching for your course using the course ID and course name and still can't find your class, there are a few other options you can try!
-
Search For Your Class Differently
The course ID and course name in our system could be slightly different than how it shows on your syllabus. If your course ID and course name includes characters such as a colon (:), dashes (-), or spaces, try removing those in your search! For example, instead of searching for "ENGL-1301", you should try searching for "ENGL 1301" (no dash).
-
Search For Only the Course Name
Similar to above, if you're not seeing any results when typing in the course ID, try searching for only the name of the course! For example, try searching for only "Composition I".
