Searching for a Tutor

How to Search for Your Course

To make it simple for you to find tutors that can help with your classes, all you need to know is the course name and course ID of your course as it is listed by your institution. The course name and course ID typically looks something like this: MATH 1101: College Algebra.

For in-depth instructions on how to search for your subject, view this article: How To Search For Your Subject to Find a Tutor

Upswing Tutors vs. School Tutors

Depending on the institution you attend, you may have the ability to schedule sessions with Upswing tutors, school tutors, or both!

Upswing Tutors:

Upswing tutors are tutors that are employed by Upswing. Upswing tutors are only available for one-on-one, online tutoring sessions.

School Tutors:

School tutors are tutors that are employed by your school. When scheduling a session with a school tutor, you may have the option to schedule in-person sessions, or group sessions with other students.

For more information on the differences between Upswing Tutors and School Tutors, read this article: Scheduling Tutoring Sessions with Upswing Tutors vs. School Tutors

Filtering the Results

After searching for your course, you'll see the list of tutors that are able to help with your class. By using the different filters, you can find tutors with availability that meets your needs. Filters include:

  • Session Date
  • Session Time
  • Group vs. Individual Sessions
  • In-Person vs. Online Sessions
    • If you choose to filter for tutors with availability for in-person sessions, you can choose the specific location on campus, as well.

Scheduling a Tutoring Session

Immediate Tutoring Sessions

If you are needing help right away, you may be able to meet with a tutor for an immediate session. Tutors will sometimes set themselves as available for immediate sessions, which allows you to be able to meet with them within minutes. All immediate sessions are online, and the session will take place in our Virtual Learning Center (VLC).

For instructions on how to schedule an immediate session, view this article: How to Schedule an Immediate Tutoring Session

Future Tutoring Sessions

Future sessions are sessions that are requested in advance. Once you find a tutor available at a time that works best for you, you'll submit a request to book that session with the tutor. If you're scheduling a session with an Upswing tutor, the session will be a one-on-one, online session. If you're scheduling a session with a school tutor, you may have the option to schedule in-person sessions or group tutoring sessions, depending on the tutor's availability.
